advantage car rental salt lake city airport

The statement in one form or another is a part of car rentals since the beginning. In the early days, it was a direct question of principle. They have it, you replace it. Sometime between then and now, someone that "there is a lot of money to be made with the gas tank to rent.

For those who do not know, can you explain refueling options in car rentals. If you rent a car, the car usually comes with a full tank of gas. In some cases, it comes with a partially full tank. In any case, the rent will be three options to choose from. Bring it back to the same on it, (full) advance for a full tank of gas (GSO) and bring them back empty, or bring it back empty, and a refueling fee (FSO) is a more expensive per gallon rate.

Fuel Service Option (FSO) is almost always the most expensive option. Up and down the California coast, most cities have FSO fees to $ 5.99 per gallon (and with the latest prices, even higher). Around the country, its not much better. While your Mileage may be applied to the actual price per gallon, the FSO is almost always a good U.S. dollars per gallon more expensive than the prevailing GSO (Prepaid)-rate or the rate of local gas stations. It seems that there is no really good reason for using the FSO, but it is. While most FSO users are people with more money than time or people who have forgotten to fill the gas tank, there is a segment where it is cheaper to use these services than others.

If you have a discount code, it may be that the employers. Some employers, such as Microsoft and government leaders like Lockheed Martin have negotiated contracts, where the same dollars for fuel prices gas stations nationwide. Depending on the market, it may not be so bad. In one case, a friend of mine, for the above mentioned companies went on a trip to Kona, Hawaii. On this trip, the fuel service option gas stations was less than the price per gallon of all local gas stations within 5 miles from the airport. In this case, its always only the best the car back as it is.

At the other end of the spectrum, the GSO option is a prepaid full tank of gas at a certain rate. In most car rental agencies, the GSO is the average of the three nearest gas stations. With this average, multiply the capacity of the tank by this point and offer it as a lump sum to fill the tank. But let the buyer beware. If the tank is not empty completely when you return, you are not a reimbursement for gas use. You have actually paid for a full tank of gas and if your not "empty" "for the return, you have just given the car to use gas.

Therefore remember, as you should FSO (fuel-service option)?

* Only if you have no other choice
* Only if your company gives you a discount special price for the gas tank
* For those who have more money than time

And when should you with the GSO Fuel Option?

* Trips where you know you have the car for more than a week
* Trips where you know you will be driving more than 400 miles
* If you know that your are too strapped for time to return

A few last tips. If your rental from the field, the nearest gas station. If you have time, its often good to drive and gas in the car to ensure it was completely full when you use the car. Many of today's tanks for as much as 50-100 miles off the needle in fully. If the agency finds the tank is full, the nozzle should click almost immediately (3 / 10 a gallon). But the ride, you really need not worry if it is less than 3 / 4, unless the one gallons 85 cents is enough for you to argue and waste 20 minutes. If you have more than that, take the receipt to the counter when you return the car and the quantity of gas from the invoice.

If you have a GPS device to lock in the position of the car and the nearest gas station to save time for the return. Some of the best-laid plans are ruined by lost trying to get back to the airport. If traveling in a group, assign a person responsible for the car rental return signs, the exit ramp, next restaurant, among other things that you need on your way back to the airport.

Under no circumstances are you to buy the most expensive grade of gasoline! Let me repeat that clearer. of cheap gas. The car rental companies all buy the cheapest gas, the law allows. Feeling guilty is not topping out ceremony for the car with a more expensive grade of gas. The car will stop and sold, before the abuse, long before the gas causes for the car.
