Crete has long been a popular holiday destination for summer sun and fun search. Job turquoise sea, silky soft beaches and a fascinating history, it is easy to see why. Luxury hotels, villas and apartment complexes isolated ensure that every whim is provided for. Resorts can only be a superficial impression of a destination, however. For an authentic travel experiences, car hire is hard to beat. The following are some of the must-see day trips on the island of Crete.

1. The Amari Valley Drive

The picturesque valley Amaru can Iraklion from the west, the north and Rethymnon Agia Galini and Matala to the south. The Amari Valley is characterized by fertile orchards, vineyards and olive groves. On your journey you are guaranteed through the beautiful city Amari, with its charming and picturesque traditional taverns of the city. 2. Convent Drive:

3. East Crete Drive

The east coast of the island is home to some of Crete's most picturesque villages and towns. A good starting point for your trip is Thrapsano, which is known for its pottery and earthenware. Why not have a pit stop in the village of ceramic laboratory, where you will find high quality handmade pieces for sale at a low price? From here we continue on the town of Ano Viannos, where you can visit the Museum of Ethnology. The fishing village of Ierapetra is another option. Try the cheap and tasty "just caught" fish on a traditional tavernas along the waterfront. After a satisfying lunch, a trip north to the charming little village Kritza, where, if you're lucky, you can stumble on a local market selling handmade goods at reduced prices.

4. Phaistos Drive

Phaistos Minoan settlement is located 61km to the south of Heraklion. By many as an impressive example of architecture as well as Minoan Knossos, Phaistos Palace is worth a visit. Particularly spectacular is the preparation of entrance and stairwell. The palace is open daily from 8am to 5pm Tuesday through Sunday and low prices have approval for large groups.
