car rental at boston airport

Since my first visit to Malaysia in 1994, I was always curious about Langkawi, an island near the border of the Kingdom of Thailand. Back when my friends told me it would be empty because of the rainy season. I 've never been there. Than suddenly a phone call while I was in Bangkok offers a chance to live in Langkawi.

I was there in October 2006, was almost the beginning of the season. I flew to Kuala Lumpur with Gulf Air and Langkawi with Air Asia. The airport is small, only a few shops and cafes, many taxis, rental cars and benches. It is smart to rent a car in Langkawi because taxi is more expensive than the big cities. Also, there is no public transport, if you want to go around, you always need a taxi. It is very easy to find a good deal for a small car or a little more budget Perodua Jeep. More expensive cars are available, but I do not think it's necessary.

There are many hotels and resorts in Langkawi. Most of them are stationed around Pantai Cenang area. But if you want to live there, you do not have many choices.

If you want to live in Langkawi, you may prefer a condo. There are 5 options; century Surya, near the west of Kuah Town, almost in the middle of the city, Kondo Istana, Chogm mansion, which is what I chose as the back, Sri Lagenda is directly the opposite of Chogm the villa and in a very secluded place between Pantai Cenang and Pantai Kok; Perdana Beach Resort. Also see Malay houses around Pantai Cenang or other areas. It is really difficult to find an appropriate and usually most of them have a lot of repairs.

The prices vary between 1000rm (~ $ 290) and 3500rm (~ $ 1000). Kondo Istana Century Suria and looks very nice, but they are poor and the pool prices are high compared to the others. I recommend Chogm the villa is a very nice place. Housing is like the other Condos, and it has a very nice big pool.

For shopping there is not much selection. You can go back to Langkawi, the fair is the largest shopping mall now. You can find a good supermarket and many shops where you can buy nice souvenirs, furniture, etc. Most of the good quality and brand shops can be found here. There are also Langkawi Parade at the West entrance of the city. It is the worst version of Langkawi Fair. But it has a large supermarket on the lower floor where you will find numerous articles. Other than these malls you can Trimula to buy mobile phones, some house and electronic accessories such as curtains, drapes.

Dining in Langkawi is really good. There are many possibilities. You can use almost any type of cuisine here, Thai, Japanese, Malay, Chinese, Indian, Italian and Russian. Because of its touristic state, the island has very good quality restaurants. But for a long time, you need to know where the goods themselves to cook. Other than buying from the markets, there is a wet market in Padang Matsirat, shortly before the Langkawi International Airport. Here you can find fresh fruit and vegetables and fish, crabs and lobsters.

Go in and out of the island is a small problem. Penang is very close, you can take the ferry, but hours for the ferry return trip to Penang is not useful at all. From the airport you can fly almost anywhere. Like every other country in Southeast Asia, the flights are really cheap. If you want to go to by car, you need your car one day before the freight than take it. If you bought your car in Langkawi because the duty-free status, you can use it in no more than a month.

Once you have your own car or motorcycle, it's really easy to find your way in Langkawi. The people are very friendly and most of them speak English. Also, the foreign community of the island is very big and they are really willing to help.
