When booking a car through the call center or in the reservation online, customers can subscribe to pay $ 1.25 per rental (plus tax) to purchase a carbon offset. Under this new program, in partnership with Terra Pass, a leading provider of carbon offsets, the funds will be used to purchase certified offset projects that work to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. According to Terra Pass, to all 100,000 customers who take part, this effort will offset more than 30 million pounds - or 13,500 tons - of CO2.
In the pilot phase prior to today's official launch, the company has reported that in all three brands, approximately 1,000 customers per day have to buy carbon offsets when booking a vehicle.
Enterprise customer David Washer of Wenatchee, Washington, was among the first to the offset option when booking a vehicle. "" I support companies that contribute to clean air and the environment, and I think it's excellent that Enterprise offers this to their customers, "said Scheibe. "" I think that individual companies can do to help the environment, my children will be better in the future. ""
What's more, the company has committed to double the effort with a dollar for dollar with its customers' offset purchases up to $ 1 million. The company estimates that if all the tenants by the program itself their offset purchases, and the matching funds, could be about half of the carbon offset by the combined Enterprise, National and Alamo fleets.
"We look forward to an enthusiastic response - nothing would give us more than you, to our entire 1 million U.S. dollars with," said Andy Taylor, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, whose family last year purchased the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car businesses. "" Our customers want a sustainable choices whenever they can. We are pleased to authorize such a decision, if they rent a car.
"We know that our customers expect companies like ours to their concerns about the environment," said Taylor. "" But we also know that the future success of our company requires that we have an ample supply of vehicles and fuel for them. And the vehicles and fuel must be acceptable to society. In a very real possibility that everything about our company for long-term preservation of parts of the world we touch with our business partners. "
"We are proud, along with Enterprise, National and Alamo, to provide consumers another way to reduce their environmental impact, and new clean energy initiatives," said Erik Blach Ford, Chief Executive Officer of Terra Pass. "For the Taylor family, the offset program is just one part of a thoughtful and comprehensive environmental platform and we look forward to a part of."
The $ 1.25 offset charge represents the cost for offsetting the CO2 impact of the average vehicle in the fleet of the company. Terra Pass calculates the dollar amount on the basis of the average vehicle fuel economy (28 highway mpg), miles driven per rental (71 miles per day), and the number of days per rental over the past year for the combined Enterprise, National and Alamo in North American fleet. (Total offsets purchased will be based on factors such as the current market for offsets.)
Customers can quickly and easily purchase their carbon offsets when booking their reservations through call-in reservation centers or online at www.enterprise.com, www.nationalcar.com or www.alamo.com. The dollar-for-dollar match from the company's charitable foundation, and the additional Terra Pass carbon offsetting entry projects acquired through sustainable Travel International. The program is offered at participating locations in the U.S. and Canada, it is to the Enterprise customers in Europe later this year.
"" We believe it is very telling that when the Enterprise, National and Alamo brands forces for the first time on a consumer initiative is an effort to benefit the environment, "said Patrick Farrell, the Vice President of the company, corporate responsibility and communications. "" This is just one more indication of the Taylor family's commitment to running our business for the long term in a sustainable and responsible manner. ""
