Phoenix-based car rental operation was the largest U.S. licensee of the National and Alamo brands
ST. LOUIS - The Taylor Family of St. Louis, which owns the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car businesses, has purchased Steward Ventures, Inc., headquartered in Phoenix, privately owned Steward Ventures was the largest U.S. licensee of the National and Alamo brands in terms of revenue and fleet size. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Steward Ventures operated at four airport rental locations: Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, Scottsdale Municipal Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Mesa Falcon Field. It also operates four other locations throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area - the third largest car market in the United States. The company was founded in 1946 and employs around 300 staff.

The acquisition, under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Anti-Trust Improvements Act, closed Feb. 11th Michael G. Rollins is still in his role as Vice President and General Manager and helps to monitor the transition. Steward was the twelfth licensee to be purchased since the Taylors acquired the National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car Company on 1 August 2007.
Steward was also the second National and Alamo licensee to be acquired by the Taylor family in this month. On Feb. 8, the Taylors acquired Eatman Leasing, a licensee which operated in Wilmington, Jacksonville, Newbern and Rocky Mount, NC
